We already know that the upcoming WP8.1 update will include support for capacitive Start Screen buttons. At the moment, the back, home and search buttons are physical...with 8.1 manufacturers will be able to make them virtual.
This is good because, for a start, it means they will move around as users change from portrait to landscape mode.
But we now know that Microsoft will also allow you to change the colours of the virtual buttons.
It's a little thing, and it's just one of hundreds of little changes Microsoft is making in 8.1 in addition to the headline-grabbing features such as notification centre and Cortana voice assistant.
