Major update for BBC iPlayer Windows Phone app, new radio app to be released soon

There's a major update out for the BBC iPlayer app for Windows Phone 8/8.1.

The layout has been redesigned and it should now work better on lower-spec phones.

Radio services have been removed from the app, and the BBC says a separate iPlayer Radio app is "coming soon".

There's still no facility to download programmes and watch them without a data connection - something Apple and most Android devices have enjoyed for some time, but the app does work on 3G and 4G as well as WiFi. Live channel watching has also been added.
Watch TV programmes live and on-demand with the BBC iPlayer app.
Designed for the best viewing experience, the latest version lets you: - Watch live and on demand over Wi-Fi, 4G and 3G;
- Enjoy smoother viewing with less buffering;
- Browse new channel pages, themed programme collections and clearer categories;
- Keep track of programmes you love by adding them to your favourites;
- Access subtitles. NOTE To focus on the best viewing experience, we’ve removed radio from the latest BBC iPlayer app. But look out for the BBC iPlayer Radio app coming soon!
