Microsoft shows how to charge a Nokia Lumia using potatoes and apples at Westfield, London

There's a fruit and veg treat for you if you go to the Westfield Shopping Centre in White City, London.

Microsoft has teamed up with Carphone Warehouse to demonstrate how to charge a phone (specifically a Nokia Lumia 930 - because its all aimed at publicising the new device) using a current produced by wiring together apples and potatoes.

It long been known that the chemicals in fruit and vegetables - wired up the right way - produce a current. Not much of one, but, hey, it's still electricity.

Artist and "science enthusiast" Caleb Charland has built a huge veg and fruit battery and will be demonstrating how it works.

Trouble is, to charge a phone...sorry a Lumia 930...it needs 800 apples and potatoes.
