Jeez Microsoft, get your act together: Flipboard release was a mistake, now withdrawn

There was jubilation a couple of hours ago when the long-long-long awaited Flipboard app for Windows Phone was released.

Many people complained about getting error messages when they tried to download it. Others, who did manage to download it, complained it was buggy.

Now we know why.

The app going live in the Windows Phone Store was a mistake.

Flipboard Community Manager, Jon Virtes, has tweeted that it's not the official release and is, in fact, an early beta.

The release of such a prestigious app on Windows Phone is an important event for Microsoft. It's bad enough that we've had to wait so very long for its release after several promises that it's "coming soon". But to then let an incomplete and buggy version go live in the store is inexcusable.

Needless to say, you now can't download the app...instead there's a message that it's incompatible with your device.

And to be honest, the one we downloaded is so slow and cumbersome, it's hardly worth having.

The final release had better be good after the long long wait and now this embarrassing false start.
