Microsoft tries to explain the Lumia Denim fiasco

Following my rant a couple of days ago, Microsoft has tried to clarify what on earth is going on the the Lumia Denim firmware update.

Who's getting it....when are they getting it...why have some got it but no new Lumia Camera app??? And so on.

Redmond has added a new bit to its official Lumia Denim Q&A page. The question is: "I have updated Lumia Denim, but the firmware version number was not changed, why?"

And the answer is:
Lumia Denim is the marketing name for latest Lumia software update, which is a combination of firmware, OS (operating system) and Lumia exclusive applications. Exact contents coming with Lumia Denim vary depending on the device model, and some devices are not requiring new firmware for the new features to be enabled, so firmware can in some cases remain unchanged.
Is anyone any the wiser? If you are, please post an explanation, because I'm not.

Update: OK...I think I understand. My Lumia 1320 in the UK says it's still on Cyan, but the OS and firmware version numbers both say it's on Denim.

So, some phones are updating but not telling users in Settings > Extras+Info, where it still says Cyan.

Well done, Microsoft. Great way to confuse a user.

Check your OS and firmware version numbers here.
