Xiaomi reveals how to load Windows 10 on its Android smartphones

Windows 10 running on Xiaomi Mi4

Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has revealed how you'll be able to load Windows 10 for Phone Preview on its Android smartphones.

The full Windows ROM will be downloadable from the official Xiaomi forums.

You'll have to transfer the file to your phone where you'll be able to run the installation.

The company says the ROM will be released "soon".

Initially, it will be available for the flagship Xiaomi Mi4, which can be bought on Amazon UK for less then £300.

It's a major step for Microsoft to make Windows 10 available to manufacturers to let users convert their Android devices to Windows.

Xiaomi is the world's third largest manufacturer of smartphones and the move is seen as a way of giving people the chance to try out Windows 10 with the option of reverting to Android if they don't like it.

It's also surprising that Redmond is letting Xiaomi owners use a Preview build of Windows 10 for Phone months before its official release later this year.
