Nokia's transformation from Lumias and Symbian to broadband and fixed-networks

It wasn't that long ago that Nokia ruled mobile phones. But it's now putting the finishing touches to its complete about-face.

It's announced its buying Alcatel-Lucent for $16.5bn. Yup - billion.

It will make the company - to be known as The Nokia Corporation - the biggest provider of mobile and fixed telecommunications infrastructure in the world.

The Finnish firm has also made it clear it wouldn't mind selling off its HERE mapping division.

So it seems any lingering hopes that the once mighty mobile manufacturer will return to the marketplace after its handset division was bought by Microsoft are...well...as good as dead and gone.
