Apple give each iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch a unique identifying code. They're called SHSH blobs and it's vital to store them if you ever need to downgrade you iOS.There's now a very useful app in the Cydia app store that does it directly on your device.
It's called iSHSHit.
It lets you store your SHSH blobs on your device, it also uploads them automatically to Cydia to keep, and it lets you email them to yourself to store on your computer.
All jailbreakers really should store your SHSH blobs - you never know if you might need them in the future and iSHSHit makes it super easy.
