Apple "To Charge For iPad Software Update"

Stuff.TV has a story claiming that Apple is planning to charge iPad owners to update the software on their devices.

Apple has already said an update to the current iOS3.2 is planned for autumn this year to add iOS4 features like multi-tasking and folders.

Stuff says it's been told of the plans by developers working on a future iPad app who say their information is "definite".  And it believes the cost could be in the region of £5.

But Apple's terms and conditions agreement with iPad owners says the next update will be free.

"Apple will provide you any iPad OS software updates that it may release from time to time, up to and including the next major iPad OS software release following the version of iPad OS software that originally shipped from Apple on your iPad, for free.

"For example, if your iPad originally shipped with iPad 3.x software, Apple would provide you with any iPad OS software updates it might release up to and including the iPad 4.x software release. Such updates and releases may not necessarily include all of the new software features that Apple releases for newer iPad models."

So, it would mean a change in the agreement before Apple could charge for the next update.

Stuff might just be stuffed.
