HP Confirm webOS Tablet For Release Early 2011

Remember the Palm Pre?

It was meant to be Palm's rebirth into the modern world of smartphones. And when they announced it, the device seemed revolutionary with a great new operating system called webOS.

That was two years ago. It took the company ages to get the device onto the market and by that time it was too late. Other smartphones, notably the iPhone, had overtaken it and it, well, basically flopped.

Earlier this year, computer giant, HP moved in and bought Palm because they wanted the operating system. And now they've confirmed they'll be putting it to use.

HP has announced it will be releasing a tablet device early next year and it will run webOS.

The announcement is contained in HP's latest third-quarter earnings statement, which shows the company pulled in increased earnings, up 11.4% to $30.7B.  It's mainly on the back of a 27% rise in desktop computer revenue.

It will be good to see webOS being put to use at last...let's hope the launch isn't delayed while Apple's iPad gets an even firmer grip on the tablet marketplace.
