New 7" iPad "To Be Launched As Early As Christmas"

It's looking increasingly likely that Apple is preparing to launch a smaller 7" iPad...and it could be out in time for Christmas.

Taiwan's Economic Daily News - the country's leading financial newspaper - is reporting that several Taiwanese companies have won component orders: Chimei Innolux will supply the 7" LCD screens and the touchscreen technology will come from the Cando Corporation. It says plans are advanced and the new mini-iPad could be out by the end of the year.

Both companies have, of course, refused to comment. It would be more than their contracts are worth.

The Economic Daily News was the first publication to report that Apple was planning the original iPad tablet, when other sources were saying the company was about to launch a netbook.

Last week, Taiwan's DigiTimes newspaper also reported Apple is planning a new 7" iPad 2 as well as a more powerful version of the current 9.7" model.
