We've already reported that a jailbreak is coming for Apple's new iOS 4.1 iPhone and iPad Touch software.
And we said it looks like this could be a "jailbreak for life". Well, this is now being confirmed by the jailbreak hacking team.
They're calling it SHAtter.
It'll use an exploit that means Apple won't be able to block it simply with a software update. It'll need a hardware update. That means your current device should be jailbreakable through future software upgrades.
One thing we're not sure about is if it will be a tethered jailbreak or untethered. If it's tethered it means you will have to reapply it every time you reboot your device.
And there's still no release date. The team have a lot of work to do on testing and packaging the exploit.
