Windows Phone 7 "To Be Launched On October 11"

PocketLint is reporting that Windows Phone 7 will be officially launched on October 11 with smartphones running the operating system appearing later in the month.

It's vital for Microsoft to have a successful launch as its old OS, Windows Mobile, is seen as outdated, clunky and way outdated.

Google's Android and Apple's iOS are both now dominating the mobile phone growth market.  Windows Phone 7 will have to work or Microsoft will be squeezed out of what's seen as the biggest potential market expansion of the future.

Like Android, Microsoft will licence out its OS to handset manufacturers, unlike Apple which keeps its iOS on its own iPhone, iPad and iPod hardware.

PocketLint says it has confirmation from good sources that the Windows Phone 7 launch will be in New York with the announcement of a raft of smartphones running the software.

It's known that LG, Samsung, Dell, HTC and Asus are all launch partners.

So, looks like an autumn flooded with new Windows-operated mobile devices.
