Archos Shows Off Two "iPad-killers"

One of the favourite subjects on this blog is iPad killing.

It's estimated that Apple has sold nearly nine million of the devices and, so far, no other manufacturer has come anywhere near releasing a true rival.

Samsung seemed close with its Galaxy Tab, but its huge £600 price tag would seem to put it out of the running.

Well, Archos has now revealed it's about to release not one but two iPad-killer tablets and the prices are low.

There's a 10" model ($349 for 16GB) and a 7" model ($199) and both are scheduled for release "early next year". How much they'll cost in the UK is anyone's guess at the moment, but the usual rule-of-thumb is simply substitute £ for $ and you're damn near it.

The company let journos have a look during the MobileFocus trade show in San Francisco and most seemed impressed with the design and manufacture qualaity.

The devices will run Google's Android operating system and Archos is at pains to point out this means they can handle Flash websites, unlike the iPad.

And don't forget there are other similar devices about to be churned out by the likes of HP, Blackberry and Dell.
