The iPhone Dev-Team of hackers has released an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4, iPad and newer iPod Touches.
Until now, there was only a tethered jailbreak, which meant you had to re-run the programme very time you rebooted.
A big word of warning, the new Redsn0w is in beta and intended for testing. And it's for Macs only, although it's hoped the dev-team will soon release a Windows version.
Because it's a beta version there are some issues. these include Bluetooth not working, AirPlay doesn't work, youTube doesn't work and some apps from the Apple App Store won't work.
All-in-all, I'd leave jailbreaking til a more stable version comes out.
Details are on the iPhone Dev Team blog. And the excellent iClarified has published a how-to.
