Looks Like MobileMe Could Go Free Soon

Apple's MobileMe subscription syncing service is changing  We said it would. And it is.

It's all aimed at (probably) making it a free service and even going as far as letting you store your music and video in the air (well, in Apple's huge newly completed data storage complex in North Carolina). At the moment it costs £60/$99 a year.

What's changing? Well, you can now not buy a MobileMe subscription on-line. You can still sign up for a trial, but all reference to buying has been removed.

And MobileMe retail boxes are being discontinued at Apple Stores and on-line. Yes, they sold MobileMe in a box. All you got in the box was an activation number.

AND word has it MobileMe will be "down for maintenance" sometime soon.

It would all seem to add up....to...changes. It could be Apple is gearing itself up to launch the changes at the media event scheduled for March 2 when the new iPad 2 will be launched.
