US Patent-holding company, Lodsys, has started legal action to sue some Apple App Store developers. It says it's taking the action earlier than planned following a warning letter from Apple.
Lodsys claims patent rights to "in-app purchases", which many developers use to sell upgrades to free versions of apps.
Apple's letter claimed it already held licenses for the patents in dispute and that covers developers selling in the App Store.
Lodsys rejects this and says licence fees must also be paid by individual developers.
