Mac OS X Update Kills Mac Defender And Prepares App Store for Lion

Another update to Mac OS X Snow Leopard has been released to developers and seems likely to go on public release soon.

Included in the update is automatic removal of the Mac Defender malware that's doing the rounds. And there's also an "enhancement" to the Mac App Store to get it ready for the next major operating system update to Lion.  This seems to confirm that the Lion update will be available to download from the app store as well as on disc and memory stick.
Mac OS X 10.6.8 will remove MAC Defender and its variants as well as prepare the Mac App Store for the upgrade to Lion, according to release notes that accompany the latest beta.

The 10.6.8 update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, including fixes that:
● Enhance the Mac App Store to get your Mac ready to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion
● Resolve an issue that may cause Preview to unexpectedly quit
● Improve support for IPv6
● Improve VPN reliability
● Identify and remove known variants of Mac Defender
