9to5mac says it's been sent photos of what could be the upcoming iPhone 5. A reader spotted the device on a train journey in San Francisco and says the user was trying hard to hide the device with his hands, but the photo above seems to show the Apple logo.
The tipster says he's owned an iPhone 3GS and currently has an iPhone 4...and the mystery phone was neither.
He says the device was thinner and slightly wider than the iPhone 4, and with a bigger screen. He says the back of the phone appeared to be made of curved glass or possibly plastic.
Apple has said it gives out prototype iPhones to employees for testing in advance of launch. There are persistent rumours that a new iPhone will be announced in August and will go on sale in the US in September, with a roll-out in other countries the following month.
