Teardown Confirms Amazon Sells Kindle Fire At A Loss

A teardown of the new Kindle Fire tablet shows Amazon are selling the device at a loss.

Market research company iHS iSuppli says the device, which sells for $199, costs $201.70 to make. That includes components and manufacturing costs.

The company's Kindle bookreader is also sold for less than cost price, with Amazon banking on making a profit out of downloads from its book and app stores and movie rentals.
