App Alert: Wolfgang's Vault Is A Treasure Of Live Music Concerts (Update 3)

Wolfgang's Vault is a treasure trove of recordings of thousands of live music concerts...and it's all free.

Steely Dan at The Rainbow Theatre in 1974...The Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers at Whisky A Go Go in 1970...Jimi Hendrix at Winterland in 1968...Pink Floyd at Oakland Coliseum in 1977...Annie Lennox at the Royal Albert Hall in 1986...get the idea.

The recordings span decades from the 1950s to the present day.

You can browse the content by artist, collection or genre and you can search for specific artists. The app is designed for the iPhone and iPod Touch but works perfectly well doubled-up on the iPad. The app augments the Wolfgang's Vault website, where you can listen to concert recordings and watch videos on your PC. Some concerts are available to download as well as stream on the website.

Wolfgang's Vault app is available now as a free download in the Apple App Store.

Update: I've now been using this app for a bit and it's - to say the least - a little unreliable. Once you've listened to something, very often the search and browse functions won't work. You appear to be able to get round this by killing the app (double click the home button) and restarting it. Let's hope the developer keeps developing, because it's an excellent resource of thousands of live concert recordings.

Update 2: Well, a very swift response from Wolfgang's Vault, which has emailed IJSMblog asking for more details of the problems.

Update 3 (January 25, 2012): Email from Wolfgang's Vault - "With others experiencing similar issues recently, we're having our iPhone app developer look into doing an update to the most recent version."
