4G Faces Even Further Delays In UK

The UK is falling badly behind the rest of the world with yet another delay in launching a 4G (also known as LTE) faster mobile data network.

The auction of the wavelengths has already been delayed several times and was on track for a possible network launch next year, way behind the US and most of Europe. But infighting between the networks and the regulator, Ofcom, means it could be postponed further.

The latest delay is because Ofcom gave permission for Everything Everywhere (Orange and T-Mobile) to use spare frequency capacity they already have to launch a limited 4G  service late this year. But the other networks - Vodafone, O2 and 3 - have objected to EE being given a head start. And the objections could delay the whole process.

Sigh.
