Apple And Samsung CEOs Agree To Court Meeting Over Patents Battle

Apple CEO Tim Cook has agreed to meet with his Samsung counterpart, Gee-Sung Choi, at a courthouse in San Francisco for settlement talks in the two companies' patent war.

The meeting, which includes senior lawyers from both sides, will take place within the next 90 days, reports the Foss Patents website.

The two companies are embroiled in patent lawsuits in nine countries, with the first US litigation due to come to trial in July.

The mediation effort in San Francisco is part of the US legal process and it would be unlikely that either side would fail to agree to meet. A similar meeting took place between Google and Oracle last year, but it failed to reach a settlement and that case has now resulted in a court battle which started yesterday.

Apple and Samsung issued a joint statement:
"As directed by the Court, Apple and Samsung are both willing to participate in a Magistrate Judge Settlement Conference with Judge Spero as mediator. At Apple, the chief executive officer and general counsel are the appropriate decision-makers, and they will represent Apple during the upcoming settlement discussions. At Samsung, the chief executive officer and general counsel are also the appropriate decision-makers, and they will represent Samsung during these settlement discussions."
There's now a 90-day deadline for the meeting to be held.
