Grindr Crashes "As Olympic Athletes Arrive In London And Log On"

The Mirror and other UK tabloids are reporting that the gay dating iPhone app Grindr crashed within minutes of Olympic athletes arriving in London. It quotes "experts" saying Grindr was overwhelmed by demand with the sudden influx of Olympic teams.

Another of its sources is, err, someone who lives in London:

One Londoner said: “It happened almost as soon as the teams got here. Either loads of athletes were logging on to meet fellow Olympians or were looking to bag a local.

“The Grindr system obviously couldn’t cope. It took 24 hours for the app to get back up and running, much to the relief of all concerned.”

For sure, Grindr was down for nearly 24-hours and logging on now brings up the apology above.

Pink News reports there are only 14 openly gay and lesbian athletes taking part in the Olympics. That's out of a total of more than 12,000 competitors.  Of course, there's the support staff. Must be them, then.
