Samsung Galaxy S3 Sales Top 10m

The new Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone is reported to have sold more than 10m units worldwide since it was launched at the end of May. It wasn't expected to reach that figure until the end of July.

The Android-powered S3 - Apple's major rival in the smartphone market - became the fastest-selling pre-order phone of all time, with reports that it attracted 9m advance orders before it was released. It's now available in 140 countries.
Shin Jong-kyun, the president of Samsung's information technology and mobile communication division, told reporters that the phone has become a 10-million seller after it was first unveiled on May 29 in London. He, however, did not give exact numbers.

This translates into about 190,000 Galaxy S3s being sold every day, and easily ahead of its very popular predecessor -- the Galaxy S2 -- that reported sales hitting 10 million, five months after it reached consumers.
Samsung expects the S3 to sell more than 19m by the autumn, which will leave Apple with a lot of catching up to do with the next-generation iPhone.

It's widely believed the iPhone 5 will be released around September/October and in some respects Apple is thought to be following the design lead of Samsung, incorporating a bigger screen and slimmer profile.
