Specs leak for Blackberry's "lifesaving" new smartphone

Details are emerging of the specs for the smartphone Blackberry is pinning its future on.

Thought to be called the Z10, the device will be officially unveiled on January 30, along with a second phone, believed to be the X10. Both will run RIM's new Blackberry 10 operating system.

TechRadar claims to have RIM training documents that detail specs of the Z10:
The touchscreen device reportedly boasts a 4.2-inch display with a resolution of 1280x768, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a 1,800 mAh battery.

Other features include a front-facing 2-megapixel camera and an 8-megapixel snapper on the rear with 5X digital zoom and the ability to capture video footage in 1080p. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4G and NFC.
These specs put it firmly in the top-end smartphone bracket to rival the Nokia Lumia 920, the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Blackberry is facing dwindling sales and a reputation badly dented by widespread outages which have hit its email and messaging network.

It's vying with Windows Phone for third placing in worldwide smartphone sales behind Android and iOS.
