Windows Phone 8 nominated for top UK design award

The Windows Phone 8 operating system has been nominated for a prestigious UK design award.

The Design Museum in London has shortlisted the OS in the "Digital" category in its annual Design of the Year awards.

It's the only operating system nominated and is up against 14 other contenders in the category, including the Raspberry Pi mini-computer and the official website of the UK Government.

The museum says WP8 with its distinctive Tile layout  "integrates mobile use with excellent Microsoft Office functionality".

Category winners - and an overall winner - will be announced in April.

The competition runs in tandem with an exhibition of all contenders at the museum  running from March 20 to July 17.
