The major reason for using a curated news source is an experienced team of journalists have already sifted through the stories and put them in an order of importance. We may not completely agree with the order, but at least your brain can relax a bit while you're catching up on events.
Bing news from Microsoft used to be all over the place with a movie star out for a walk taking precedence over war breaking out.
But it's now matured into a credible source of curated news. It's transparent about its sources and has now become one of my news aggregators of choice.
