Will the Nokia brand return to smartphones? Probably yes and it could be 2016

Microsoft is in the process of rebranding its mobile phones from Nokia Lumia to Microsoft Lumia.

When Redmond bought the Finnish manufacturer's mobile phone division earlier this year, it paid for the rights to use the Nokia name on Lumias for 18 months.

So, it's got until the end of next year to wipe Nokia.

It's hoping that by then the range of Windows smartphones will be known simply as Lumias.

But even by the end of next year, Nokia will still be one of the most recognisable names in mobile computing - possibly second only to iPhone.

What's left of Nokia in Finland is privately making it clear it is prepared to return to the smartphone arena.

But would it stick with Windows as an operating system.

We think probably not.

We wouldn't be surprised to see Nokia-branded Android smartphones in 2016.
