Rupert Murdoch's News Corp "To Launch New Digital News Service"

We've reported before on Rupert Murdoch's love-in with Apple. Well, it looks as if they're about to become permanent and exclusive bed-partners. Exclusive, but not monogamous. (Oh, get on with it.)

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that News Corp has advanced plans to set up a dedicated newsroom producing tailored news for the iPad...and other similar devices.

Our Roop really does see this as the way forward for with printed newspapers steadily losing circulation. Already, several of News Corp's stable of publications have iPad apps with paid-for subscriptions, including The Times in the UK.

It's reported the new newsroom will be based at another News Corp paper, The New York Post, with its own staff of reporters and editors.  Content will be aimed at "younger people", initially in the US.

Earlier this month, the publishing mogul described the iPad as "a real game-changer in the presentation of news". And he predicted the Apple device will get young people "back to reading news".

Several of News Corp's newspaper websites are now behind paywalls and word has it they're not doing too well. But dedicated iPad apps are performing much better in attracting subscriptions.
