Today's the day Nokia becomes Microsoft, sign of the times

The signs they are a-changing. Down with the Nokia lit-up letters to make way for the Microsoft moniker.

April 25, 2014, is finalisation day for Microsoft's $7.2bn deal to buy Nokia Devices and Services Division.

That means Nokia phones and tablets are now Microsoft phones and, as you can see from the photo, already Nokia buildings are being rebranded.

But what isn't clear is if the Nokia name will survive on phones and tablets. Nokia smartphones have been successfully branded Lumia devices. Will they now become Microsoft Lumia devices? Or is the Nokia branding too strong to drop completely?

We're betting the Nokia name will indeed be phased out to be replaced by "Lumia from Microsoft". But Microsoft will keep the Nokia name on the dumb-phone Asha range.
